The plan for the Forum has always been for members of the Ste. Genevieve art community to have full participation. It’s taken me a while to become familiar enough with the software to make it fully accessible to people who might want to use it. (Had to fit it in between breakfasts, etc.)

It turns out that it is quite easy to contribute your own ideas/stories. Post comments to others’ stories as usual. Please email me directly if you have a problem or don’t understand. karen@mainstreetinnbb.com

Also, please send any email addresses for people you think might also be interested. We can have up to 35 free contributors before I have to pay WordPress any money ($30/year) for the privilege of extending the blog to more people.

Fourth Friday Philosophy & Statement of Purpose

Ste. Genevieve includes a growing community of artists. In order to maximize the impact of these artists and to develop benefits to them, to the community in general, and to visitors to Ste. Genevieve, an organized network is developing. The Fourth Friday Gallery & Studio Walks, as well as the use of this weblog, are the first of these efforts.

Fourth Friday participants are located in the Ste. Genevieve Downtown Historic District and defined as any shop or studio that is exclusively dedicated to producing, displaying, or selling items commonly recognized as art (i.e., paintings, pottery, photography, sculptures, constructions, etc.) are invited to participate in the Fourth Friday events. Cooperation with other shops in the district, such as gift shops, antique shops, restaurants, is encouraged for mutual benefit although these establishments will not be listed on the Fourth Friday maps.

It is hoped that various artists will interact with one another in such a way as to give support, encouragement, and effective publicity to benefit all members of the group. Mounting coordinated exhibits and conducting activities to attract interest to the efforts of all members of the group will benefit all. For example, artists with studios outside the downtown historic district are encouraged to work with other artists in the district to show their work either in conjunction with a shared exhibit or an individual one in a shared location.

Studio 221 to open on the first Fourth Friday

Studio 221 will officially open on Friday, July 25, participating in the first Fourth Friday event. Studio 221 is a co-op gallery and working studio operated by Bev Baker, Dolores Boyd, and Karen Kulberg. It will occupy the space formerly used by the Charleville Vineyard Tasting Room. Please stop by and view the new gallery during the Fourth Friday walk. The studio will be open regularly on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons from 1 to 5 pm and by appointment.

Fourth Friday Poster Available

Posters are now available for galleries and studios participating in the Fourth Friday walk. The posters are designed to be placed in a window or door so that strollers will know that the gallery/studio is involved in the activity. They are not dated so they may be used for quite a while. We may do smaller versions so that interested people can take them as a reminder. Be aware that we want to keep the cost of production low. Right now printing is being donated by Main Street Inn.

Gallery & Open Studio Walks Begin in July 2008

Artists in the Ste. Genevieve downtown historic district are planning to open their studios and/or galleries on July 25, 2008 the fourth Friday to visitors. The evening event is still being planned so there is opportunity for idea sharing. A major decision that must be reached soon is the title of the event. As it is to become a regular event, the title needs to be catchy, appealing, and somewhat descriptive. Several options have been suggested: Final Friday (which doesn’t take into consideration the 3 or 4 months that have 5 Fridays), Fourth Friday, Art ‘n About.

Please post your ideas. A decision will be must be made before the 4th of July in order to get the publicity rolling.
