Artists in the Ste. Genevieve downtown historic district are planning to open their studios and/or galleries on July 25, 2008 the fourth Friday to visitors. The evening event is still being planned so there is opportunity for idea sharing. A major decision that must be reached soon is the title of the event. As it is to become a regular event, the title needs to be catchy, appealing, and somewhat descriptive. Several options have been suggested: Final Friday (which doesn’t take into consideration the 3 or 4 months that have 5 Fridays), Fourth Friday, Art ‘n About.
Please post your ideas. A decision will be must be made before the 4th of July in order to get the publicity rolling.

I went to Cape Girardeau’s First Friday gallery openings last night, and passed out small flyers about the Ste Genevieve event…and there seemed to be a lot of interest from the people I was talking to about it.

A press release went out today with as much current information as I had. I used the Ste Genevieve Fourth Friday Art Walk and the times to be 6-9 pm. One suggestion from an artist in St Louis was to have the event continue on the following Saturday (during the day)…like a 2 day art walk. If most of us are open, I’m sure we could do that (and use up the leftover refreshment). My posted hours on Saturdays at Studio de Michel are 11am to 7pm anyway. Not sure how this would work for everyone.

What is the point of having a two day art walk if we are trying to generate excitement and traffic for the Fourth Friday event? Sure a lot of people will be open on Saturday anyway, but it seems to be that the Fourth Friday effect will be diluted by announcing an extension. Let’s concentrate on developing the Fourth Friday into an exciting event before we expand. It would be a shame to lose the focus before we even start.
